Re: Hudsonian Godwit

Great photos Ed!  And thanks also to out of towner Daniel Hite of Mesa AZ,  the original sighter, who is an outreach person at Audubon Arizona, and who filed the first eBird report with photos.    Paul L. and Barbara C. and John B did a great job of getting the word out and posting updates.  sue

Re: Hudsonian godwit still present, and a celebration

Well, Camille and I came racing all the way back from Arizona, communicating with Paul and pulled into Robb Field about 6:30 to see Gary Nunn and Dan Cooper on the bird.  Dan walk from the water up to the bike path to make sure Camille and I got to see our lifer Hudsonian.  It is a big deal to me that Dan did this as I am having a hip replacement in August and he knew I could not get down to the rocks.  Dan, thank you so very much.  Anyhow, bird was still very happily feeding and hopefully sticks around for a few days.

Mountain lion attack

Not a rare bird sighting but thought the word should get out as some of us visit this location on a regular basis. There have been several reports in the last couple of days concerning this lion

Clark's grebe at San Elijo Lagoon, and late rufous HB

Hi all,

https://ebird.org/view/checklist/S56804359

Got photos of a Clark's grebe just west of Tern Point (overlook at end of La Carina). Also, while carefully checking all hummingbirds along La Orilla Trail for the elusive b-chinned (missed again) I had a getting late male rufous HB. I have another one still hanging out in my neighbors yard, so perhaps there are several stragglers this season.

Hudsonian godwit still present, and a celebration

Hudsonian Godwit is still present at 4:15 p.m. With the tide now coming quite a ways in, it will loose a lot of the feeding areas in the next hour. Hopefully it will still be here tomorrow at low tide again…

This is a first County record, and it is Guy McCaskie's 500th bird in the county!!!! Yeah, Guy!

Hudsonian godwit continues

the hudsonian godwit continues on the mud flats at Robb Field, San Diego River mouth, at 2:30 and it is finding lots of food in the mud so hopefully it will now stay put and not venture off to beaches that are absolutely covered in Homo sapiens on memorial day weekend. However, the tide is now going to start coming in and we will see how late it stays until it gets too high a tide late in the day.

Re: Hudsonian godwit MIA

The finder just posted this to Facebook:
Spotted this Hudsonian Godwit today at the San Diego River tidal Mudflats at about 8:45 this morning.
It was foraging with some Marbled Godwits bouncing back and forth between the east end of Dog Beach and the center mudflat. First for San Diego I believe.

Currently at 11:15 or so, multiple birders are NOT seeing the hudsonian godwit on the mud flats at Robb field that was reported earlier this morning only on eBird.
