'sea-watch' birds, La Jolla Cove, 20 Nov 2019

…nobody has yet web-posted on this…? Well, here is one:

I joined Stan Walens and Gary Nunn and others this AM at La Jolla Cove. Good-to-great bird species found included Fulmar, Parasitic and Pomarine Jaegers, Murre, Red Phalarope, all three scoter species and Long-tailed Duck, Black-vented Shearwater, and all three loon species. Numbers of some species were very high, mostly moving south into the wind.

On a personal note: I heartily thank Stan and Gary and the other experienced sea-birders there – had it been just myself, I figure I would have picked out, seen and correctly identified, perhaps one-third of the good birds? perhaps less? Thanks also to Stan who, based on weather forecast, ‘called' this outcome yesterday and today a week ago!

Good Birding,
