Solitary American Flamingo at the bay NWR
Yesterday morning, around 8.30a I visited the north side of Imperial Beach to view and photograph the bay during king tide. A single American flamingo, hot pink neck and plumage and black tipped bill, was almost upto its belly in water and conspicuous among hundreds of Brant geese. It stayed sedentary for the twenty minutes or so that I was present. Later, I searched online and found news articles from Feb 2018 that mention an AF sighted in the same area (links are NatGeo, LAtimes). I didn't know this at the time, but this bird had been sighted in Nov and Dec last year by many and shows up in the rare bird alert listings. Some nice photos taken and will post them on ebird today.
