White-breasted Nuthatch in Encinitas
We had a white-breasted nuthatch at our suet feeder this morning, a first for our yard. We are on the western portion of Lone Jack Road up a rather dry slope one hundred or so yards from Escondido Creek. Unitt 2004 notes that the species wanders most frequently “when stressed in its normal range by drought.” I wonder if the fires could result in a similar effect.
